Pure sodium sulfide is a colorless crystalline powder with strong hygroscopicity and is easily soluble in water. The aqueous solution has a strong alkaline reaction, which will cause burns when it touches the skin and hair. Therefore, sodium sulfide is also called alkali sulfide. Sodium sulfide aqueous solution will slowly oxidize into sodium thiosulfate, sodium sulfite, sodium sulfate and sodium polysulfide in the air. The color of industrial sodium sulfide is pink, brownish red and earthy yellow due to impurities. Yellow flaky sodium sulfide with hydrogen sulfide odor and hygroscopicity. When exposed to light and in the air, it turns yellow to brownish black, and gradually produces hydrogen sulfide, which can be decomposed in acid or even carbonic acid, and is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in ether. The aqueous solution is alkaline, and when exposed in the air, it gradually becomes sodium thiosulfate and sodium hydroxide.

Introduction to the use and function of sodium sulfide:
1. The dye industry is used to produce sulfur dyes, which are raw materials for sulfur blue and sulfur blue.
2. The printing and dyeing industry is used as a dyeing aid for dissolving sulfide dyes.
3. The paper industry is used as a cooking agent for paper.
4. The textile industry is used for denitration of man-made fibers and reduction of nitrates, as well as mordant for cotton fabric dyeing.
5. The tanning industry is used to hydrolyze and depilate raw hides, and also to prepare sodium polysulfide to accelerate the soaking and softening of dry skins.
6. The electroplating industry is used for the treatment of the conductive layer in direct electroplating. The purpose of forming a good conductive layer on the non-metal surface is to generate colloidal palladium sulfide through the reaction of sodium sulfide and palladium.
7. The pharmaceutical industry is used to produce antipyretics such as phenacetin.
8. There are also certain uses in military industry.
9. In mineral flotation, sodium sulfide is the depressant of most sulfide ores, the sulfide agent of nonferrous metal oxide ores, and the remover of mixed concentrate of sulfide ores.
10. In water treatment, it is mainly used to treat electroplating or other wastewater containing metal ions, and remove metal ions, such as germanium, tin, lead, silver, cadmium, copper, mercury, zinc, manganese, etc., by the precipitation of sulfur ions on metal ions. Sodium sulfide precipitation method can recover valuable metal elements in heavy metal wastewater.
11. Adding proper amount of sodium sulfide to the alkaline etching solution of aluminum and alloy can significantly improve the etching surface quality, and can also be used to remove alkali soluble heavy metal impurities such as zinc in the alkaline etching solution.
12. It is the raw material of sodium thiosulfate, sodium polysulfide, sulfide dyes, etc.
13. Analyze the hardness of water in nitrogen fertilizer production.
Precautions for storage:
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from kindling and heat sources. The humidity in the warehouse should be no more than 85%. The package is sealed. It shall be stored separately from oxidants and acids, and mixed storage is prohibited. It should not be stored for a long time to avoid deterioration. Provide fire fighting equipment of corresponding types and quantities. The storage area shall be equipped with appropriate materials to contain the leakage.
The content of common sodium sulfide is 52% - 60%, and the packaging specification is 25kg plastic woven bag.
